  2. Politics Club conversation: 20 Years after the 9/11 Attacks, Sept 24. Join the Politics Club on 9/24 @ 4:00pm to have a conversation on what the post 9/11 world looks like 20 years after the attacks. California Indian Day, Sept. 24. Honor California Indian Day by attending a co-hosted panel discussion on #LandBack: “This Place of Water & Fire: Connecting Land, Water & the History in Native California.” September 24 @ 12:00 p.m. Featuring: Corrina Gould (Co-Founder of Songorea Te' Land Trust), Brittani Orona (Humboldt Alum and PhD Candidate in Native American Studies at UC Davis), Cutcha Risling Baldy (Chair of Native American Studies, Humboldt).   4. Project Superbloom part-time jobs and internships. Project Superbloom, a youth-led organization to empower young Californians to organize their communities and build a powerful coalition to elect working-class leaders to the state legislature, is hiring for several part-time jobs and internships for this fall. This opportunity is perfect for young people under the age of 25 who are interested in pursuing solutions for racial, environmental, and economic justice. Project Super Bloom will give students the opportunity to immerse themselves in political organizing, learning from experts in campaign finance, fundraising, policy, and electoral politics, and then apply the knowledge they gain to executing a local and statewide strategy to transform California’s political landscape.   5. Submissions sought for Toyon Multilingual Literary Magazine, Sept. 30. Toyon welcomes work in Spanish and English and in translation. All writers and artists are welcome. Special Section Theme: Hope and Healing. Submission deadline Sept. 30. Toyon website.
  6. Sana, Sana poetry and music contest, Sept. 30. Are you a Latinx poet? Submit poems of hope, healing, and care (in Spanish and/or English) for a change to have your work set to music. Details here. Submission deadline Sept. 30.
  7. Project Green Challenge, starting October 1. This call to action features 30 days of environmentally-themed challenges to touch lives, shift mindsets, and equip students with knowledge, resources and mentorship to lead change on campuses and in communities. Through conscious living, informed consumption, and individual and collective action, Project Green Challenge (PGC) participants are challenged to envision and work toward the healthy, just, resilient future they want to thrive in. Each day during the month of October, a uniquely themed challenge will be delivered to registered participants by email. At the end of the 30 days, up to 16 PGC Finalists will be selected to join Turning Green for a four-day eco summit from Nov. 18-22.   8. Global Ambassadors Fund, October 5. The fall application cycle for awards from Humboldt's Global Ambassadors Fund, which supports students studying abroad in 10-week/12-unit programs, is now open. Applications to support travel happening SPRING or SUMMER 2022 are due October 5. See here for further information and application instructions.
  9. Gilman Scholarship, October 5. The Gilman Program provides grants for undergraduate U.S. citizens of limited financial means to study and intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. The Gilman Scholarship Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and is assisted in its implementation by the Institute of International Education. The application cycle is now open for applicants whose in-person programs or internships start between December 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022. Virtual programs will be eligible through Summer 2022. This cycle encompasses Spring 2022, Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and Academic Year 2022-2023 programs. The deadline to apply is October 5.   10. MS in Foreign Service at Georgetown University. The Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) program at Georgetown University seeks to educate and equip the next generation of international affairs leaders through a rigorous curriculum of historical, political, social, cultural, and economic studies while also instilling a commitment to service in the international community and an appreciation for the ethical dimension of international affairs. The program is recruiting Cal Poly Humboldt students and is waiving application fees this year. All completed applications submitted by 11:19 pm EST on December 1 will have the application fee waived. There are a number of scholarship opportunities now available to applicants that can cover from about 20% to full tuition. (Read about last year's scholarship recipients.)   11. Peer mentor office hours. Politics Department peer mentors Samuel Perez (sep104@humboldt.edu) and Serena Archila (sea91@humboldt.edu) host drop-in office hours every week. Let them help you: plan a path through the major, answer coursework questions, help motivate you to stay focused on your success, and support you during challenging times.
