NEWS FOR POLITICS STUDENTS -- 9-17-19

  1. Bar Debate, Sept. 17. The Humboldt Center for Constitutional Rights (HumRights) is hosting a Bar Debate Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at Humbrews to celebrate Constitution Day. Two Humboldt students, Journalism Major Freddy Brewster and Politics Major Fabian Cuevas, will debate the topic of unfettered free speech v. the need to limit speech to create safe spaces. (Politics Major Mia Spizman was instrumental in organizing the event as a HumRights intern.) HumRights is concerned that the country has gotten so politically divided that many avoid conversations with people across political divides and that makes the First Amendment protection of freedom of speech meaningless. The Bar Debates are intended to demonstrate civil dialogue. See attached poster.
