The Cal Poly Humboldt Department of Politics and Politics Club present:

"Unsettling Settler-Colonialism in Words: A Case Study of Far Northern California": Join us in the Native American Forum (BSS 162) or pre-register on Zoom here for a talk on the impact of Yurok language access in California high school curricula and collaborative methodology as part of decolonization on April 29th from 4-5:30pm! Drinks and treats will be available to those in attendance! Please bring your Cal Poly Humboldt ID or proof of vaccination as these will be checked at the door per University policy. Featured Panelists:

  • Mneesha Gellman: Associate Professor of Political Science, Emerson College and Faculty Research Associate, Department of Politics, Cal Poly Humboldt

  • Victoria Carlson: Yurok Language Program Manager, Yurok Language Keeper

  • James Gensaw: Yurok Language Keeper and Teacher, Eureka and McKinleyville high schools

Politics Department Social On May 6, 4:00-6:00pm, there will be an end of the year social to celebrate our Politics community and especially our graduates the Founders Hall Courtyard!. We will offer a free taco bar and churros for the first 25 student attendees. 

Decolonizing Economics Summit free to you (3rd Annual Post Capitalism Conference), co-sponsored by the Politics Department will take place online April 21-23, 9AM - 8:30PM. The conference will feature panels, presentations, performances & skill shops, and is free to you! Register at https://decolonizingeconomicssummit.org/

The Politics Department Kalb-Haston award is given every year to a qualified student who has demonstrated leadership in student government and/or other campus organizations. Political science majors are preferred, but the award is open to students in other majors. $1000 will be awarded to the first place winner and $500 to the second place winner. Submit a letter of interest, a resume, and contact information for two references by 5pm on Friday, April 29, 2022. Contact politics@humboldt.edu for more information.

Join El Leñador - The Bilingual Student Newspaper El Leñador is an award-winning, monthly newspaper providing news to Latinx and diverse communities on and off campus. In print and online ElLenadornews.com. El Leñador needs writers, translators, photographers, videographers, copy editors, artists, graphic designers and a website manager/tech for Fall 2022. Open to all majors! No experience necessary. You do not need to know Spanish to participate. Staff write articles in English and they are translated into Spanish. Stories can also be originally produced in Spanish and translated into English. Class will be Mondays & Wednesdays 3 to 4:50 p.m. in person. Butte County Sustainable Communities Scholarship: Students who have graduated from a public high school in Butte County in the previous four academic years (2018 through 2021) AND are enrolled in a political science/environmental program are eligible. Two (2) $500 scholarships will be awarded. Political science majors from Butte County are encouraged to find out more information about this scholarship. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 29th at 5pm.

Summer job opportunity related to the environment: The Fund for the Public Interest is seeking hard-working individuals with good communication skills and a passion for social change to fill citizen outreach and Field Manager positions across the country this summer. The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that runs campaigns for America's leading environmental and social change organizations like Environment America and US PIRG. We launched the Fund in 1982 to help find ways to engage people on the most pressing problems of our day and turn that support into solutions. By having face-to-face, one-on-one conversations, we give millions of people the opportunity for their voices to be heard through petitions, emails, and small donations.
