2) The Affordable Housing Challenge, Dec. 12
Join Cal Poly Humboldt's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Dec. 12 at noon via Zoom for a Brown Bag Lunch Presentation on "The Affordable Housing Challenge,"  with Beth Matsumoto, Director of Multifamily Development, Rural Communities Housing Development Corporation, and Chris Dart, President, Danco Communities. They will discuss issues facing builders and advocates for building affordable housing in today’s housing crisis market, and how they are being creatively addressed, along with the impact of current state legislation specifically designed to incentivize such housing. 3) Cal Poly Humboldt Sustainability Newsletter 
Browse the most recent newsletter to find information on events, campus sustainability projects, community happenings, and other useful tips. This newsletter is authored by Green Campus, a student group that operates under Cal Poly Humboldt's Office of Sustainability. Upcoming items of possible interest to Politics students include:
  • Earth Week Every Week Committee. The EWEW team brings together students of various sustainability organizations at school and volunteers who want to help inform and guide sustainability efforts here at Humboldt. 
  • Campus Center for Appropriate Technology co-director position, applications due Dec. 13
  • Ecotopia! Dec. 2. An interactive workshop for hands-on learning of repurposing items, proper waste disposal, and a social justice discussion.
 
     
4) Ralph Bunche Summer Institute
The RBSI is an annual, intensive five-week program held at Duke University. The program is designed to introduce aspiring political scientists to the world of doctoral study. The program is open to students from traditionally underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds or those interested in broadening participation in political science and pursuing scholarship on issues affecting underrepresented groups or issues of tribal sovereignty and governance. The successful applicant to RBSI receives full tuition, health insurance, transportation, room and board in a dormitory double room, books, and instructional materials. Also, participants receive a food allowance and a weekly stipend. Applications are due January 21. More information is available here.
