Breakfast with Distinguished Alum Mark Murray, Oct. 18
Meet Mark Murray and hear about his journey from Cal Poly Humboldt student-athlete-A.S. President to Executive Director of Californians Against Waste!
As a student, Mark:
- Served as Chair of the Student Legislative Council;
- Was elected Student Body President (1985-1986); and
- Helped develop and campaign for the Humboldt Graduation Pledge for Social Responsibility, which was passed by students and remains a part of the Cal PolyHumboldt graduation tradition.
As a leader in resource conservation and environmental protection, Mark:
- Recognized early on the threat posed by plastic pollution and the need to reduce and recycle;
- Helped forged “first in the nation” ordinances banning polystyrene and statewide bans on single-use plastic bags and plastic micro-beads; and
- Is focused on fixing the statewide bag ban, reducing toxic packaging, reducing food waste, minimizing impacts from landfills, and creating convenient recycling opportunities for all across California.
