1. Student Leadership Associates. Dean Lisa Bond-Maupin of Humboldt’s College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS) is seeking to work with a group of student leaders within the College in academic year 2019-2020. Her hope is to develop meaningful relationships tha twill guide student-informed decision making in the College. This is also an opportunity for her to support students in their social change work and development as leaders. Those selected to serve as Student Leadership Associates will be employed for 10-12 hours per week at $14/hr. Undergraduate students in any CAHSS major and at any stage in their studies are encouraged to apply by April 15. See the attached flyer.
2. Paid Student Activist Retreat. On July 31-August 2, California Common Cause will be hosting its 9th Annual Student Activist Retreat at San Francisco State University.  The training covers organizing best practices and how to run and win a strategic campaign. There will also be discussion on systemic solutions to improving our democracy. The deadline to apply for this year’s training is Friday, May 10. Student's travel, meals, and housing will be covered by California Common Cause. See the attached flyer.
3. ACLU Advanced Advocacy Program. The American Civil Liberties Union Advocacy Institute’s Advanced Advocacy Program will prepare college-aged students (ages 18-24) for lifelong engagement in grassroots organizing, policy development, and legal advocacy. At this week-long program in Washington, DC,  students will enhance their knowledge of civil liberties and social justice issues, as well as learn about internships and professional opportunities in public policy, law, communications, and social impact work to help them prepare for a career in the law and public service. 4. GRE preparation skillshops. Thinking about graduate school? Registered to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)? The GRE is a standardized test required by many graduate programs. Your GRE scores can play a role in admissions, fellowships, and financial aid.The Learning Center, the Library, and the Latinx Center for Academic Excellence are offering a three-part SkillShop series on preparing for the GRE on April 16, 17, and 18. 5. Take Back the Night, April 8-12. Take Back the Night events bring awareness to sexualized violence as a tool/tactic/form of oppression. See the attached flyer for a list of events. For more information, contact hsuwomen@humboldt.edu or call 707-826-4216.

7. 2nd Annual LumberHacks Hackathon. The Hackathon is a three-day project building competition, starting Friday, April 12, in which competitors form teams and have the opportunity to express themselves through technology. This is a free event and all meals are provided. Attended by many Computer Science students, the Hackathon will have lots of programmers ready to build awesome projects. We welcome students of all majors. Non-CS students can be contributors in many different ways: providing project ideas and direction, providing invaluable group leadership skills, providing business input, providing artistic input, providing user psychology input, and much more. We promise that any and all who attend will find a team in which their contributions are appreciated. The Computer Science Club will host a library SkillShop at which non-CS students can learn more about the Hackathon and ask questions on Monday, April 8, at 12pm in LIB 308.
