  1. Environmental Resistance 2.0, Feb. 28. “Tools for Success in a Phase Two of a Chaotic Administration” – a free workshop led by Dan Sealy, the Northcoast Environmental Center’s legislative analyst in Washington, D.C.   2. "Women and the Timber Wars," Feb. 28. Women were undeniably instrumental in the fight to protect ancient forests during the Timber Wars, yet historians and movement scholars have overlooked their contributions. As part of the Sustainable Futures Speaker Series, this panel will explore women’s contributions and highlight the confluence of feminism and eco-defense in past and present struggles to save the redwoods.   3. Homeward Bound spring break. Are you trying to figure out how to get home and back to campus for Spring Break? Consider the Homeward Bound Bus Charter Program. Bus service will be offered on Saturday, March 16, to San Francisco and Los Angeles, with a return trip to Arcata on Saturday, March 23. Round trip fare per student is $115 to Los Angeles and $95 to San Francisco. Seats will be available for purchase March 1 at 9 a.m. Students are encouraged to reserve a space as soon as possible as seats are limited. For more information about the program, click here.
  4. Jobs for graduating seniors. Impact offers full-time opportunities for college graduates who want to organize to make a difference on environmental and public interest issues. The spring application deadline is Sunday, March 3. Find out more information and apply online here.
  5. "One Partisan's Incoherent Word Salad is Another's Call To Arms," March 6. In this talk about social and political identities, Amber Gaffney of Humboldt's Department of Psychology examines how social and political groups move toward extremism and/or stability in times of unrest. This talk will be taped as part of the My Favorite Lecture series, a radio program, podcast and community lecture series featuring remarkable talks from Humboldt educators.   6. Let's Talk about the Middle East, March 7. Free film showing ("Born in Deir Yassin") and discussion led by Dr. Leena Dallasheh at the Richard's Goat Miniplex (401 I Street, Arcata). Thursday, March 7, 5:30 p.m. On the night of April 9, 1948, Deir Yassin, a Palestinian village on the outskirts of Jerusalem, was attacked by the Stern Gang and Irgun. They proceeded to commit a massacre that has left a huge mark in the history of the conflict. This film tells the story of the village in its various incarnations, including interviewing some of those who were directly involved in the massacre and its aftermath. See the Facebook event here.
  7. Submit your on-campus sustainable idea. Humboldt Energy Independence Fund (HEIF) is a student-run organization that focuses on creating a more sustainable campus by implementing projects inspired from student ideas. Notable projects include installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the Music A building, hydration stations around campus, and relighting of the Redwood Bowl to cut energy costs. Idea papers for new projects are due March 25. Proposers are encouraged to attend one of three “idea paper workshops” prior to submitting a proposal. See the attached flier for more information.
  8. Internships in U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s offices. Internships are available to undergraduate college students in Senator Feinstein's Washington office, as well as her four state offices located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Fresno. Stipend available. The deadline to apply is March 15.
