Prepare for Fall 2022 registration, which begins on April 11. Please utilize the Politics Majors Advising Course for all of the resources you need to fill out your DARS Plan and create your Fall 2022 schedule. Make an appointment with your faculty adviser to get the advising hold lifted.

Save the Dates! The Politics Department and Politics Club are co-sponsoring two more events this semester. On April 29, 4:00-5:30pm, there will be a talk by Faculty Research Associate, Professor Mneesha Gellman on"Unsettling Settler-Colonialism in Words: A Case Study of Far Northern California" Professor Gellman will be accompanied by Victoria Carlson, Yurok Language Program Director and James Gensaw, Yurok language teacher at Eureka and McKinleyville high school On May 6, 4:00-6:00pm, there will be an end of the year social to celebrate our Politics community and especially our graduates. We are planning food and frivolity in the Founders Hall Courtyard!

Decolonizing Economics Summit (3rd Annual Post Capitalism Conference), co-sponsored by the Politics Department will take place online April 21-23, 9AM - 8:30PM. The Kalb-Haston award sponsored by the Politics Department is given every year to a qualified student who has demonstrated leadership in student government and/or other campus organizations. Political science majors are preferred, but the award is open to students in other majors. $1000 will be awarded to the first place winner and $500 to the second place winner. Submit a letter of interest, a resume, and contact information for two references by 5pm on Friday, April 29, 2022. Contact politic@humboldt.edu for more information.

Sustainable Future Series Webinar: April 7 @ 5:30 pm (Pacific): Shelly Covert: 

Raising Nisenan Visibility in 2022 and Beyond. Shelly Covert is the Spokesperson for the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe a Tribal Council member and is a community outreach liaison. She is also the Executive Director of the Tribally guided, nonprofit CHIRP – the California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project – whose mission is to preserve, protect and perpetuate Nisenan Culture. In this presentation, she will talk about the importance of raising the visibility of her Tribe and how they use art as a means to amplify visibility of the Nisenan. Register here.

College to Congress paid Capitol Hill internships  College to Congress provides full-time, paid, Congressional internships in Washington, D.C. to underrepresented students. The program is free of charge for all participants.To apply you must be a current junior or senior in college (at the time of applying) or be a recent graduate (who graduated during or after the Fall 2021 semester, have proof of Pell Grant eligibility during the most recent undergraduate semester, commit to living and working in Washington, DC from August 22 to November 20, 2022, and commit to training and participating in College to Congress's programming while interning in Congress full-time. Study Abroad this Summer with part of your tuition paid! Students attending a summer study abroad program that is either Humboldt faculty-led or CSU approved are eligible for some tuition reimbursement (up to $1000). There are two Humboldt programs this year: Nantes, France led by Professor Joseph Dieme and Leon, Spain, led by Professor Matthew Dean. Professor Dean has agreed to extend the Leon application deadline on an individual basis if students immediately contact him at matthew.dean@humboldt.edu. The deadline for applying to the Nantes program is April 15 and interested students should contact Professor Dieme at Joseph.dieme@humboldt.edu

U.S. State Department Fall 2022 paid internships–Apply by April 12!: The new paid student internship program begins in Fall 2022 and is intended to expand opportunities for students of all backgrounds in post-secondary degree programs to gain experience and insight into the variety of careers available in U.S. foreign policy programs and administration. Up to 200 student applicants will be chosen and applications for this paid student internship will be accepted through April 12, 2022, or until 1,000 applications are received. Submit your application as early as possible to ensure you have uploaded all documents properly.
