3) “Lying and Politics: The Relevance of Hannah Arendt,” Oct. 19

6-7pm EDT. Free event. Register here. Fifty years ago, the 20th-century's foremost political philosopher wrote two seminal essays on questions that have new urgency today: Why do politicians lie? What is the relationship between political lies and self-delusion? And how much organized deceit can a democracy endure before it ceases to function?

Join Seyla Benhabib, Eugene Meyer Professor of Political Science and Philosophy, Emerita, Yale University; Senior Research Fellow and Professor Adjunct of Law, Columbia University, Roger Berkowitz, Founder and Academic Director of the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College, and David Bromwich, Sterling Professor of English at Yale University for a discussion of the brilliance and relevance of Arendt’s essays, newly brought together in Hannah Arendt: On Lying and Politics, with an introduction by Professor Bromwich.

6) In-Person Networking Opportunity with Local Sustainability Professionals...with snacks!
Students, faculty and staff are invited to the Sustainability Practitioners Mixer, Friday October 21st from 1-3pm in the Goodwin Forum on the Cal Poly Humboldt Campus. This free in-person informational tabling event is an opportunity to meet local professionals from over 16 different organizations working within the intersection of critical economic, social and environmental challenges. And there will be snacks!  Come find out about jobs, service learning, internships, volunteer opportunities and other ways to engage with local sustainability professionals inside and out of the classroom. This annual event is brought to you by the Center for Community Based Learning and the Office of Sustainability. 7) Student coordinator position focusing on sustainable transportation; applications due Oct. 21
The work will entail sustainability project management, outreach, and focused project development with a focus in sustainable transportation practices and education. This role will support the creation of a new Commuter Club, aid in reduction of scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, and assist with the development and implementation of transportation training resources for the Residence Hall EcoReps & the new Employee Peer Education Program on Sustainability.
  
8) Capital Fellows Applications Now Open! 
Are you graduating in Spring 2023? The Capital Fellows Programs are nationally recognized public policy fellowships offering unique experiences in policy-making and development in each branch of California state government. Fellows work for 10-11 months as full-time, paid staff members in the State Assembly, State Senate, Executive Branch or the Judiciary. The fellowships are administered by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento, and are an outstanding opportunity for college graduates to engage in public service and prepare for future careers. Fellows receive a monthly salary of $3,253; Medical, dental and vision benefits; 6 graduate units in Political Science or Public Policy and Administration from Sacramento State; and a graduate certificate in Applied Policy and Government upon completion of the fellowship.
Prospective Capital Fellows must have completed a bachelor’s degree by Sept. 1, 2023, and a demonstrated interest in public service, public policy, and California state government. Applicants may apply to one or more of the programs that meet their interests and qualifications. Recent graduates, graduate, postgraduate and mid-career applicants are welcome to apply. For the 2023-24 fellowship year, individuals must complete the online application by the deadline of Feb. 6, 2023, by 5 p.m. PST at: Capital Fellows Programs.
